HOW TO: THE CURVE OF YOUR JIBE IN WING FOILING!

One of the key moments when jibing in wing foiling is when you cross the path of the wind. By moving away from the wind beyond this mark you lose the support in your wing and unless you are on a good swell, the inertia of your foil will gradually let you go. At this point stalling awaits you.

To counter this loss of power and glide, it is important to adapt your trajectory as explained by L’Ours below.

Wing foiler: Malo, GONG team rider, in Pulse 5m and Lethal custom.

“The most important thing for successful jibes is to understand that the curve is a J and not a C. It is imperative to close the curve as soon as you cross the axis of the wind to find apparent wind and a solid foil lift. We could also say that the curve must be at constant effort, so as the speed decreases the curve should close. By closing this curve, you also create lift by putting the foil under pressure, which is very useful when switching your hands on the wing!”
