Why use a board bag?

Protecting your surfboard during transport—whether by bike, car, or plane—is essential. Boards often get damaged out of the water, not in it.

There are many options available depending on your needs and budget. You should always choose a board bag that matches or slightly exceeds your board’s length and shape.

While the main purpose of a board bag is to protect your board from impacts and sun exposure, it also makes carrying and handling easier—whether it's over your shoulder, in your hand, or securing it to a car roof rack.

How to choose your surfboard bag?

Selecting the right surfboard bag depends on several key factors:

Construction & Padding: If you're planning major surf trips where your board is at risk, opt for a padded bag for extra protection.
Outline & Shape: Choose a bag that closely matches your board's shape and dimensions.
Size: Always pick a bag equal to or slightly larger than your board.

For travel, a slightly larger bag is better, as it allows you to add extra padding (e.g., wetsuit or poncho) around the nose and tail, which are the most vulnerable areas. However, a bag that’s too large may offer poor protection if the board moves inside. Your board should fit snugly, with its nose and tail properly aligned with the bag’s reinforced areas.

The GONG SURF SOCKS

This is the essential bag to limit small shocks, friction, and sun exposure. It’s very practical for protecting your car seats from wax, water, or salt.

It can also be used as an extra layer of protection inside another bag to reinforce your board’s safety when traveling by plane.

If you're planning bigger, riskier trips, consider also equipping yourself with a padded bag, such as the GONG DAYBAG or GONG LUXE BAG.

Example: For a BATMOB 7'2 (218.4 x 60 cm), go for a SOCK HYBRID bag in size 7'0 x 23 (220 x 60 cm).

The SURF DAYBAG

This is the ideal bag to protect your board for everyday trips, such as from home to the beach. It features a 5mm protective foam to shield your board from small transport bumps. It also provides excellent protection against the sun.

It is available in a shortboard version for boards with a shortboard outline and pointed noses. It is also available in a TOMO version for hybrid models, or Fish or Mini Simmons styles.

Example: For a MATATA 5'6 (167.6 x 55.8 cm), choose a DAYBAG in size 5'4 x 21 (168 x 56 cm).

The SURF BAG LUXE

This is the perfect protection for transporting all your gear daily or for a trip. The 8mm foam, covering the entire surface, will provide optimal protection for your board. The bag can be fully opened, allowing you to store not only the board but also other accessories, wetsuits, change mats, and more—or simply to easily clean the inside of your bag.

Several models are available to accommodate and protect a wide range of boards. The BAG LUXE comes in two versions: hybrid and longboard.

Example: For a BATMOB 7'2 (218.4 x 60 cm), choose a BAG LUXE in size 7'0 x 23 (220 x 60 cm).

The SURF QUIVER BAG

Built on the same model as the Luxe version, it features a 20 cm sidewall, making it easy to carry 2 to 4 boards without fins.
This is the ideal protection for surf trips!

Example: For a MOODRIVE 9'0 (274.3 x 58 cm), choose a QUIVER BAG in size 9'2 x 24 (286 x 62 cm).

Our partner brands offer a wide range of covers suited for every shape and length, allowing you to find the perfect one for your board (shortboard, malibu, funboard, longboard). Some brands prioritize durability over weight, offering reinforced constructions (double thickness on the rails, padding, nylon coating, etc.) to protect your board from the risks it may face.

All covers feature a grey thermally-insulated, water-repellent plastic interior lining, along with foam padding (5 to 10mm) to protect your board from heat and impacts.

A legendary surf brand founded in 1990, offering a wide selection of transport covers that are both lightweight and durable. These are designed to fit shortboard, funboard, and longboard shapes:

The FLEXI HEX system
Starting your vacation with a damaged board after air travel is a nightmare, but it’s easily avoided!
To prevent this unpleasant surprise when you arrive, we highly recommend protecting your board with Flexi-Hex, which we use for all our rigid board deliveries.
The Flexi-Hex protects everything: the rails, deck, nose, and tail with its honeycomb geometry that forms a 30mm protective layer. This packaging adapts to all shapes and sizes of boards and can be folded down to take up no space during your vacation.
Simply slide the board into a Flexi-Hex, then into a good boardbag, and you’re good to go!
In addition to being reusable and fully recyclable, it’s the proven system we use every day to ship our boards worldwide.

How to maintain your cover?

Jammed with sand, oxidized by salt and humidity, zippers are the main cause of trouble for the precious protection of your board.

To extend its durability, we recommend that you rinse the zip very regularly with clear water, even if they are equipped with a solid salt-resistant zip. A care we also recommended for the zip of your wetsuit.

You can also apply Zip Care to the zippers of your board bags and wetsuits. The must have maintenance product for plastic and metal zippers. A unique brush applicator allows the product to be applied between the teeth of the zipper and physically remove dirt, salt residue and dust that may block them.
